Figure in a yellow haircut

Great (yellow) greetings!

Eventhough the sea monster lost i'ts moustache, he is absolutely raising from the waves/mud with some new things to say. So set your course to Kasarmikatu 36 ImprovHelsinki, to hear some sounds of recent digestions of a fine animal in a never before observed situation: The 'Bull in a china shop' (introduced before) and other interesting improv-acts. The event begins at 20.00.

The Bull's show is starting to form into a nice package of guitar- & noise improvisation, also including an improvised choral act by me and the boys in the tape recorder (taken from Allegri's miserere as a flexible & nicely molded material for questionable purposes) fitting for my growing interests in doing some nonsense acapella music. So there are also some collage approach in the act to come.

There is also some progress in the compostitional side of things: The second part of the quintet is ready (just some small repairing) and waiting for the third part. And is kept waiting untill I finish a prelude for beginner players (piano, cello & oboe) which has taken a minimalist turn. It's interesting to write with a limited possibility of doing things, with a sort of ascetic vocabulary that puts your mind on a new level of smallform-creativity with (potentially) fresh outcome. The working title of the prelude is 'Henkiä kevään ryteikössä', just for the sake of it's pictoral & other associations, and will possibly include an aleatoric postlude. All depending if I have time for it to happen.

Off to rest:

Bull in a china shop solo gigs & MLS Recording sessions

Hey'a There!

There has been a mystic humming that 'BULL IN A CHINA SHOP' - The infamous superego of Tomi Pekkola is doing few solo gigs in the Helsinki area. Following are the schedules:

1.4.2007 ImprovHelsinki, Helsinki (Note! Tomi Pekkola solo performance)
3.7.2007 Nosturi, Helsinki (Note! Tomi Pekkola solo performance)

The performances will contain electronics combined with acoustic sounds & will be highly improvised & basicly put together on stage.

Another announcement is that MARKKU LAHTELAN SIRKUS has recorded first track on their second album (or a promo), still waiting for that little something from Jouni's magic sax. The style is wandering somewhere between industrial-experimentalism & dub reggae, especially doing even more over the space elements in the latter genre, and finally sounding pretty much like an MLS-recording, however with a new perspective.

The recording took place by Mikko & Tomi "in the cellar studios", so to speak (& quote a song name from The sun Tryst) and was fuelled by gun shots & brawls in the local saloons of Hamina & several occasions of greasy late night food, prepared intoxicatedly by the author in question.
